Making pine doors lighter in colour?

The doors in our house are all pine stripped, and have typically gone that rather unattractive browny orange colour. I would like to lighten them in colour and then seal or protect them.

Does anyone know a way to make them lighter in colour? I know it sounds daft but would a weak solution of bleach work?

I don't want to varnish them. I've read about Danish oil being a nice protection but would that make them dark again? At my old house I used wax (which came in a tin and you rubbed in then buffed up) which gave a nice sheen and made them easy to clean. I don't want to spend hours and hours, just make them look nice and clean and respectable. Cheers!

I see no reason why bleach wouldn't work, but would advise doing it outside and thoroughly washing them afterwards to get rid of the smell!!

You could then seal them with a clear wax when dry.
