what operating system
what does work
do you have cd that came with the machine
who told you hdd needed wiping?
do you get error messages
I have a Packard Bell HDD recorder and the way to do what you want is to go to "restore factory settings" via the "set up" menu. I'm sure Panasonic will have a similar facility. I also have a facility for wiping the HDD, again, via the "set up" menu. You should be able to do it easily enough without having to pay for it. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
