Has anyone been to Cork? I am going there for a few days in August.

brilliant place......all the south west is lovely, friendly and just the best........

we normally go swansea to cork car ferry but its not running this year, so we are missing it this year

We went to Cork for the day in May. We took a bus ride from Cork into Kinsale, and is definately worth visiting. It is beautiful, the views are stunning, we walked along the harbor and out on the costal path even though it was wet and miserable I couldn't believe what a beautiful place it was. The walk we took was called the Scilly walk (the local bus driver told us all about it on way into Kinsale) and you can walk right round the bay to Charles Fort, but stop off for a pint at the Bullman pub on the way! if you type in Kinsale Scilly walk into google there are loads of websites.
I'm not a great walker but would definately recommend this.

And get to eat at the English Market in Cork - well worth the visit - excellent fresh food and cafes - galleried continental design and full of lovely specials like tripe and drisheen - one to brag to the neighbours about when you get home....

Lots of bridges to stand and stare at the water from, and interesting alleys and shops to browse and spend money in too - and the chattiest folk in Ireland....few hilly bits in the city to stretch the legs and St Finn Barres Cathedral will give a respite from excercise....and easy access to loads of countryside in the area around Cork, too.

Also head for the Cobh - departure point for Irish emmigrants - very atmospheric........
