Sick note

Hi
Not sure if this is right place to ask this but here goes.
On 2nd July I had a hospital appointment because I had a miscariage, I had been off work the previous week with stomach pains and I have been off work since then so I knew I would need a sick note however, my doctor has been on holiday so only 1 doctor has been covering the practise so I couldnt get an appointment until 12th July. When I spoke to receptionist I advised her that I needed a sick note so was not an emergency and she said it would be ok because the note can be backdated.
When I have spoken to my works I advised them that it will be backdated and they were ok with this. On speaking to someone else now I have been told that sicknotes can only be backdated if I saw my doctor originally which I didnt, it was the hospital I saw.
I am now worried because I have been off work for 2 weeks which I would have needed a sicknote for. Can anybody help to clear this up for me.
In the first week I was off when i had stomach pains I saw another doctor (he was covering emergency appointments) who reffered me to the hospital.
I hope this makes sense and thanks very much in advance for your help.

You should be able to get a sicknote to cover the 2 weeks as a woman that was working for me a couple of months ago was off sick and didn't see a doctor until nearly 2 weeks later, he still signed her sicknote and backdated it to the first day she was off sick.
I'm sure if you explain all this to the doctor they will sort it out for you. The first week when your stomach pains started was when you first became ill, you were referred to the hospital and it was all ongoing so I would have thought they will sign you off for the 2 weeks.
I hope this will be the case for you. Take care xx

Hi Topsie - so sorry about your bad news. I've been there too and it's something I hate to see anyone go through, so I just wanted to give you a cyber-hug xx
(As for the sick note - I'm sure everything will be fine. Everything is documented anyway, even if it wasn't by your normal doctor. It's not like you're making it up, which is obvious to your work. Don't worry xx)
