where can i found out the original extent of damage down to my car after its been modified as a class d write off

from who ever owned it before or the insurance company who wrote it off cat d.

Your motor Insurer can run a check on their MIAFTR database, this will provide you with the insurer details who wrote the car off as a Cat D. They should be able to tell you what their engineers report says.
