so government ministers are admitting that they have smoked cannabis ok it was [allegedly] 25 years ago but are now banging on about how evil drugs are and rightly so.but arent you sick of them preaching to you.the saying do as i say and not as i do springs to mind.

most of the governement where once in CND, are we unilaterally disarming? Just more evidence that when we are young we have different views and do stupid things. I'm no lover of dope heads but it's not significant what they did at college!

Drugs are a pervasive influence in youth culture and have been since at least the time the present cabinet were in their 'youth'. It crosses all classes and credes - I seem to remember David Cameron had a bit of trouble with his weed smoking past.
And I don't really recall them banging on how evil drugs are. In fact the message they are relaying by saying 'they tried it but it wasn't for them' is the complete opposite to banging on how terrible cannabis is, so I don't think the charge of hypocracy sticks.

They are lucky, they rejected drugs before they became hooked. I suspect each and avery one of them knows of someone for whom drugs became a problem and had a detrimental affect on their lives. It is with this knowledge and life experience they are able to make sound and reliable judgements on recreational drug taking in this country.

Drugs have been around for centuries, just like racism,alcohol,smoking etc...nothing is going to change peoples ways...ok, the government can make up laws against all of this issues,but they are never going to disappear

Harriet Harman has just been on tv this morning saying that she tried cannabis once or twive didn't care for it and never smoked it again, although she did admit to having the odd glass of wine or two! Personally I don't think it's such a a big deal!

This is a good news story as far as I'm concerned.

If I thought that not a single government minister had ever even tried recreational drugs but were in charge of a country where the use of drugs is very common, I'd find that a bit terrifying. I don't find it hypocritical for them to have tried drugs. At least it shows they're not utterly out of touch.

The vast majority of MPs are graduates. I'd say that the majority of graduates have tried some form of drugs in their time. If the entire cabinet didn't fall into the 'tried it' category, that would be statistical freak.
