What is the easiest way to remove paint from a metal garage door?

My garage door needs repainting and is currently flaky in many places. I would rather not just get rid of the flakes and paint, but would prefer to strip the paint back to the metal for a neater finish.

However, am not sure of the best way to go about this - do I just spend the day chipping away at it, or is there some substance that could be used to speed the process up?

Any help would be great.

There are various paint stripper products on the market - Nitromors is just one example. These gels are painted on, left about 30 minutes when the paint will bubble up, washed off with water and dried before refinishing. On metal surfaces they should work a treat.
Yes, strip paint as above, the reason you tend to get paint flaking on garage doors is because they are usually galvanised. Galvanise needs to to be primed with a self etching primer available from most auto factors or chandlers to stop it flaking.
