Off work today and tommorrow, just watched Nightmare on Elm Street part 2 but dont think it's that great. The Fog and Jaws are good films. But would be interested to see what you all think? TIA

Well I can tell you I saw the The Exorcist at the tender age of 16 in Leicester Square when it first came out. (going back a bit). Up until then all we had was Frankenstein and Dracular so this sort of film was just a tad scary to say the least. We had 2 rows of clergy behind us and at least 20 people must have left the cinema at various times. But I watched it all the way through, was absolutely petrified and ended up on tranquilisers and all sorts for many years. So it has to be The worst horror for me. Have seen it loads of times since then and can laugh it now but at 16 and very naiive, it was awful and had serious consequences for me Oh how I wish at the time I had gone to see the other film showing with it which was Lucille Ball in "Mame" . Mind you that could have been horror as well!
Im too much of a wuss to watch real horror - do like the old black and white Edgar Allen Poe films though like The Pit and the Pendulum

Love all your answers, varied. Some I havent heard of so I'll be checking them out.
some of my faves in no particular order...

1. the shining (classic)

2.Alien ( the first and best, first time I saw it it completley blew me away)

3.Shallow Grave ( underrated, very dark rather than pure horror, fab cast at the very begining of their careers..well worth the watch)

4. Creep ( made the mistake of watching this on my own, slasher movies dont usually scare me - but this one did!- probably because I've always feared the Underground)

5.Interview with a vampire ( although I have always classed this as more of a love story)

6.Hellraiser and Hellbound - ( true horror-of it's time, scared me witless)

7.Se7en ( clever)

8. silence of the lambs - (pass the ciantti)

9.Dusk till Dawn ( fun vampire slashing black comedy- a film of two halves)

10.Henry - Portrait of a serial Killer ( dark very dark, watch it with someone who won't hate you for making them watch it afterwards)

11.The Stand ( made for tv from the stephen King epic novel, a true tale of good v evil - well worth the 6ish hours if you can track it down)
