dado rail

I was going to try to put up a dado rail myself but have decided I might make a mess of it! Got a local carpenter to quote me for putting it up in the hall,stairs and landing. He quoted me �140 minimum. This sounds very expensive to me. I am in north London so if any of you know anyone who could help me please let me know.

Sounds about right to me. It'll probably take him a day to complete. Are you supplying the materials, & is he drilling & plugging or sticking the dado to the wall?

Think of it this way do you earn more or less than �140 per day before tax

�140 is very good and in London it is a very very good price to hire a tradesman for the day. Get with it and hire the guy you will find it hard to get anyone to beat him unless you hire a cowboy.

You are lucky to get a carpenter as they are thin on the ground !!Sounds a good deal to me , especially as you are in London ,
go for it and let us know the end result .

Providing he does a good job; i.e. you can't see the fixings, all mitres are clean cut and lines are perfectly parallel to stairs and skirtings; �140 would be more than fair and very reasonable. ( Cheap I would say.)

Hall ,stairs and landing are quite an area, even in a very small terraced house. Don't Know what you have, but it will certainly improve the look of the the areas concerned and when decorated will really add a touch of class.
