Perhaps what we call Apple Crisp here in the U.S. is the same thing. Here's our recipe:
1 c. packed brown sugar
3/4 c. unsifted flour
1/4 c. rolled oats
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. butter
6 med. apples (We use Rome or Honey Crisp)
1 tbsp. lemon juice
Heat oven to 350 degrees (F). In bowl combine first five ingredients. With two knives cut in butter until well dispersed. Peel and cut apples. Slice into greased baking dish. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Scatter sugar mixture over top. Press down evenly. Bake for 50 minutes or until nicely browned.
I usually substitute 1 oz of flour with 1 oz oats on any traditional recipe.
If you have whole rolled oats sprinkle on top of finished crumble then a small amount of demerara on top to make it crunchy, or if you have milled small oats then add the oats into the flour with the crumble.
Its always worked for me.
I make a double batch of crumble mix and keep it in the fridge. Mr thuglike gets a crumble when he looks a bit miz. Lots of home grown fruit in the freezer, blackcurrants, gooseberries, apples, pears, rhubarb. I also replace some flour with oats.
