I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but I have:
WPA security - a password is needed to connect;
MAC filter so only the pcs I specify can connect;
disabled the SSID broadcast so nobody can see the name of my network;
changed the admin page log in name and password.
yeah, just wanting to know how to keep the opportunists out! are those things available off the net or are they settings that can be adjusted from your modem or isp menu's?
They are set through your routers admin page - but make sure you are hardwired (by ethernet cable) to the router before you start fiddling, otherwise you'll block your own access.
The router admin page is usually accessed by typing the following in the address bar at the top of the screen:
192.168.1.1
Spend time having a good look at all the options in your admin pages before you do anything.
