As I recall, the excursions were quite pricey and some of them were 12 or 15 hour days, ie to visit the Pyramids and Valley of the Kings. You will get some details in the pack when you get your tickets. But the way we looked at it was, if you are paying all that money and travelling all that way, is it really worth not spending a bit extra and then not seeing all the wonderful sights, that maybe you will never have the chance to see again? The excursions we did were all good and the guides were charming, had good English and really knew their stuff. I'm sure you will enjoy.
I'm just a bit worried that the cost of the trips may be really high - once you've booked it's a bit late too find out, thats what I've been looking for. Can you remember, say under 100 or over 100 for a day trip? Also, is there room for the whole boat to take the trips, or do the trips fill up and you could be left behind?
From what I can remember, I don't think any of them were over 100 - more like 50 for a full day, including a fab lunch at a posh hotel - we wouldn't have been able to afford that! Generally speaking, any ship will move heaven and earth to make sure anyone who wants to go on a trip can go, as it is all revenue for them. If you are very keen to go some particular place, my advice would be look at the excursions and book as soon as you possibly can once on board. They sometimes also run a waiting list, if trips are really full and we have got on a popular trip that way in the past. Some folks on board just want to sunbathe, never seen the whole boat empty. Usually, there is more than one trip leaving each day, so I wouldn't fret too much. If funds really are tight, you can pay your on board account by credit card and then pay the balance off over a couple of months once home.
