When France had high winds we sent engineers to help get the power back on . Are we a nation of softies , help others but no help when we need it ??

Yes i think the lack of UK citizens training to be Doctors or Nurses is down to money.
To study to be a Doctor you need to pay Uni fees and support yourself, training for Nurses is free but again you have to support yourself. Great if you have 2 rich parents, completely out of reach if you are the child of a harding working Mechanic and a harding working Despatch manager.
Government seriously needs to support those in further education more.

I agree with your comments that other countries are slow to commit to the UK
However their is monetary aid available from the EU for just this purpose.
Mind you the country that requires the aid must apply asap i believe that there is a time limit on the request for such aid.
Anyway slow as it may seem we are now getting up and running - funny though how it got up and running a lot faster than it did up NORTH!!
See there is a line somewhere in the UK

After watching a newsnight program the other night they insinuated that Britain had become a third world country. Pictures were beamed from Bangladesh showing identical type of flooding and sewage in the water where no money had been spent in protecting the population. Our recent flooding reminded me of the illnesses suffered where people wash, bathed and swam in the Ganges. We have come down to this!
Can I be the one to point out that the UK will indeed be getting disaster funds from the EU - or would that spoil a perfectly good rant?

In addition, the Red Cross has raised a small fortune to help - but i suppose that doesn't count either?
