Venice Transfers
7 Answers
We are taking a cruise that ends in Venice and we would like to stay in a hotel near the train station and then fly out a few days later. What is the best way to get from the Port to the station and is there a bus that goes from the station to the airport? Also how far is Piazzale Roma from the station?
Thanks,

There isn't really a port there. Venice is not all that big. You can get a vaporetto, water bus, from wherever you are up the grand canal to the train stn. it's not far. You'll have to google hotels. Venice gets booked up far ahead and is expensive. check out B & Bs. At the last min you might find something. you have to negotiate the price, sometimes. I negotiated from 150 to 50 a night, last min. Be flexible on where you stay. It's a small island and all is good. google a map of venice for where things are.
Correction: there is no vaporetto stop at the port - you either have to take an expensive water taxi to your hotel or get yourself up to Piazzale Roma which is about a 15 min walk away. The cruiseline probably runs a transfer bus - or from the port gates catch the 6/ bus to PR. Piazzale Roma is right on the Grand Canal. I actually stayed at hotel Antiche Figure which was an easy stroll from PR and is right opposite the train station - right by the Scalzi bridge. It gets rave reviews on www.tripadvisor.com and I would stay there again in a flash.
I don't know what salasdancer is on, this is at least the second piece of very wrong informaiton they have given on Venice. I have cruised from Venice several times. Not only is the port quite large in Venice, they actually build cruise ships there (Fincantieri yard). Believe Auntiebertie. That info is absolutely correct.
