what to wear to an evening wedding

what can i wear to a late september wedding im only going in the eveining, i was going to wear like a satin black dress with diamante accessories or is that too dressed up?

I think you need to take the lead from the type of wedding it is and whether the bride and groom have stipulated any dress code on the invitation.

I guess you know either the bride or groom, so I would judge your outfit dependant on the people they are. The venue they have chosen may also be able to give you an idea. A posh country house hotel or the local function room?

Your described outfit, sounds nice, but from my experience of weddings, it does sound more suited to a prom/ball.

And above all, you don't want to upstage the bride!!!

its a nice venue and im not sure what theyre wearing ive never met them theyre my partners friends, any ideas of what to wear just to get me started ive never been to a evening wedding you see, im a size 14

Maybe think about wearing what you would if you were invited to the whole day.... I'm imaging a Monsoon type of dress, but leave out the hat. People who have been at a wedding all day tend to keep their 'day' outfit on into the evening so I imagine that you wouldn't stand out as someone just there for the evening. I wouldn't think of it as an 'evening do' as such, just an extension of the day reception. Like I said, Monsoon is great for wedding outfits, if only for inspriation...

Is it a buttet disco event? They usually are. I would wear some nice trousers with a top which has some sort of diamente on it. Or maybe a nice skirt instead of the trousers and high shoes.
