And no flapping around sending cheques either. I pay all my bills by DD and get this saving on most of them. Virgin isn't alone in this - you find a provider who doesn't do it.

They're not the only ones, BT charge 4.50 a quarter if you pay by cheque and not DD.
Also, just as an after thought I suppose as well as being cheaper to pay by DD it makes sure BT/Virgin/whoever get their money when they want it, not when you wanna pay it so therefore causes less grief / money by cutting out sending red bills etc??

ethel and jno - yes it is a rip off.
I have been with this company for about 13 years - and the introduction of this fee was ADDED to my bill, not taken away.
seriously, if it was a discount they'd be shouting it from the rooftops!!
it is an additional fee because they don't want to pay any more staff - by doing this people lose their jobs!
you are not saving 5.
i mean on the day they brought this arrangement in, did you get a letter saying ''we are deducting 5 from your bill from now on because you pay by DD''?
No - we just got it added to our bills!
its all very well saying that you think everyone should pay by direct debit, but not all of us have a regular income and can guarantee the cash will be there on the date of the DD.
I prefer to organise my payments as and when I have the cash in my account.
