Vet Bill mrsa ,do I have to pay ?

Can anyone out there tell me whether it is legal for a vet to charge a dogs owner for an Mrsa Infection that was contracted on their premises while the dog was having a knee operation done.

I have paid the �3,000 for the knee operation but nothing yet for the MRSA Infection, i believe they are asking for about �1,000 which was lack of care on their behalf.

Now my dog has been bitten by a Staffy, and i m scared to have the lump cut out (which i do realise will have to be done) incase he gets ill by yet a different veterinary practice. would appreciate any help or advice that you could give to me . Alaine

i would seek out a lawyer as it seems its your word against the vets. i think its terrible that your dog has had to go through a big operation and then catch mrsa from their premises. its always the way,vets love to take your money but never seem to want to fork out when they are in the wrong. is your dog insured? if so i would contact them to find out what the situation is with them regarding this,also would contact your vet to explain that you are not willing to pay the money as feel there was lack and care on their behalf regarding the operation taking place on your dog and now contracting the bug. so therefore will take it further by seeking proffessional help. dont rant and rave on the phone. talk it out as calmly as you can as you are more likely to get somewhere.

i wouldnt pay it the dog was in there care they should of taken responsabilty for it,id call there bluff and say you'll get a lawyer.i just would refuse to pay refuse to pay for it,i got billed for somethink i didnt have and i stood my ground and would'nt pay...hope that helps

If your dog has been bitten by another dog and a 'lump' has developed then you should see a vet. Don't know what you mean about having the lump 'cut out'. It could be an abcess which in turn could cause blood poisoning (which can be fatal if not treated). How long ago was the bite inflicted?

As regards the MRSA infection then I would talk to the vet involved and see if they are willing to come to some agreement about the cost of treatment. Personally I try not to fall out with local vets - you never know when you will have to call on them for an emergency.
