My engine appears to be making a high piched noise which gets higher in response to the accelerator being pressed. What could this be? Please tell me it is something minor as I have recently spent over 300 on a siezed brake caliper and then leaking brake fluid resulting in loss of brakes!! MOT and service also coming up next month, can I leave it until then?
It may be your fanbelt. As the mornings are getting colder and damper it's the time fanbelts start to scream. Check it / they are properly adjusted and dust them with talcum powder.
Good luck
If it goes away after a while then fanbelt sounds very likely.
Don't suppose it's a Corsa as they are awful for it whenever it's cold / damp. Mine used to do this even when it was standing still eventually. Don't think it'll affect your MOT, but it'll just get slowly more annnoying.
Its an Astra, R reg. The noise is there pretty much all the time, it is not particularly loud. I only plan to keep the car another year so hope it can hold out. Thanks for your replies, I'll get my other half to have a look when he gets home next week, he thinks Im imagining the noise!!
