Postal Strike Justified?

Is another strike justified? Doesn't another strike mean customers will now seek alternative suppliers therefore resulting in the need for more redundancies as a result of lost business? No one wants to be made redundant but if this improves competitiveness and customer service then surely it should be accepted? Or do workers have the right to complain that this is unfair?

Hubby has actually phoned his boss and asked if he can work, boss said no it not worth opening the office for just one person, he can however go to the main sorting office in Bow or Whitechapel but unfortunately hubby doesn't fancy that as the main picket lines are there and he would have to walk through it all plus we live in Essex.

Although it's personally a bit annoying (I had a parcel lost in the last strike and I'm worried the replacement may go the same way) and possibly won't do the business any good, I do sympathise with the posties. It sounds like the bosses want to make them work flexi-time on the "here's your hours today" sort of basis and despite their refusal to give the workers a decent pay rise the bosses have (of course) got a nice fat bonus. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/artic le1878506.ece

I have no problem with them striking but good point made about customers going else where. I work for a solicitors practice in York who have now had enough of the unreliable service and are currently looking at alternative companies to deliver their mail.

What if this is not the only company. Royal Mail could lose so much business over this.

polliana, so I am a muppet eh? Why? Actually I was unbiased when I wrote the question, now I believe the strike is unjustified.

Why? Well because if you don't like your job you should leave, that's what everyone else does.

Would I be a postman? No. I would do something else.

I am with Squarebear - if you don't like it get another job. If everyone did it then the Royal mail would have trouble finding staff and would have to improve conditions. Whinging about it and having a holiday just makes you unpopular.

Not suprised the tube driver sgrees with you. I'm thinking about doing that for a 'job' when I want more holiday, less work and alot of impromtu holidays....
