can this be played direct through my music sytem or does it have to be converted on pc first please.

It has its own speakers, so you can use it as a standalone player (no need to plug it into your music system). It also has a line out, so assuming your system has a suitable input you could connect it to your existing system as well.

If you want to create CDs then you will need to use a computer.
