Used to have Walnut on the inside and on top AND come in both milk and plain when made by Duncan's. Coffee one was introduced around the time of the takeover by Rowantree's. They (Rowantree's) then moved production to England and discovered they could no longer get the chocolate right for the Plain so ceased production. I remember this well as the plain one was the only one I really liked and depriving me of one of my favourite sweeties didn't do much for early anglo-scottish relations at the time LOL Not sure why the coffee ceased production... and I STILL don't like milk walnut whips Hurrumph and bah humbug!
My parents owned a sweet shop when I was growing up through the 60's and 70's so I remember quite a lot about sweets. Walnut Whips DID have a small piece of walnut at the botton of the whip and the traditional walnut as we know and love on top. I used to scoop around with my finger to get the piece of walnut out from the bottom as I didn't like them. The dog used to eat the walnut from the top. They used to have a dark chocolate one which was really nice (in a red packet), and a coffee one which was really nice too (that was in a brown packet). OOOO bring them all back.
