I need a hotel in New York. Can anybody recommend anywhere. I did a google search, but it only turned up 139,000,000 hits.

I want it fairly central and hopefully near one of those diners in you see in Pulp Fiction where the wiatresses top up you coffee for free and the chef is a fat man.

Also near a bar like the ones a lonely jazz pianist plays to the early hours and will include a slightly neurotic wealthy divorcee proping up the bar.

Also nothing too cheap (I don't want to be shot by hoodlum) but nothing too expensive either (I am just a part time teacher afterall) say no more than $200 (100) a night, which in London will get you somewhere nice but not the Ritz.

Also, what are scrambled quite sloppy eggs called in the US of A??

If you are an ex serviceman (and can prove it) you can stay at the U.S forces club (they welcome their allies with open arms) just one block away from the Empire State building and Times Square, it's an excellent place to stay while in N.Y
i booked through lastminute a few years back and stayed at the Hampton inn - chelsea.

all was fine although we only used hotel for resting in. There is no restaurant but the concierge was happy to recommend places nearby.

not sure what the sloppy eggs are called but they had them at the breakfast buffet
If you want a diner like the one in Pulp fiction try any Wendys Diner, they are excellent and go in hungry, the servings are staggering and food is reasonably cheap and very well prepared, and, remember to leave a tip, (around 10% of your bill), no wonder most Americans are obese
We stopped at the "Pensylvania" spelling, right opposite maddison square gardens, nice and clean, but basic, few minutes walk to times square and the empire state building, and just off times square there is a great club called "BB Kings " and if you are lucky the great man may even be playing while you are there but even if he isn't the music in the club is brilliant, enjoy it, New york is a graet place and we felt 100% safe.
Anytime my brother visits NY, he always stays at the Marriott. I've never been myself, but he swears by it.

Here's the link.

I am very well thank you, Uncle Raymondo. I trust this reply will also find you in fine fettle.

How's Wales? I am in Bristol at the moment at it is bloody freezing!!!!

Can you get dinner at the top of the Empire States?
I have stayed at the Waldorf and Sofitel, both great but prob prefer the Sofitel. Tripadvisor is a great website for hotel reviews, Sofitel is ranked No 3 in New York.

When are you going? Im heading out on Christmas eve cant bloody wait to get away from here!

Hi wardy, yep fine thank you, bloody cold here as well, don't think you can eat at the top of it, never saw cafe or anything up there, but the view at night time I will never forget, it is just amazing, I love the place and we are going back in the new year.
Oh Gawd, the Uncle Raymondo - Wardy mutual sycophancy is back.

Stay at a top-class hotel, one compatible in quality and class with your upper-class English country-gentleman roots.

Great movie, Shipping News. Especially at the end when you realise Dame Judy Dench is really Kevin Spacey's sister!!!!

tali, I am afraid it will be a solo affair. I did ask somebody last week, but she sadly declined (genuine reasons), so it will be all me.

Why don't you just fly out yourself??
I may just do that Bewlay Bros!! Thanks anyway!!
