Injection advice
10 Answers
I'm 20 and have been in a stable relationship with the same guy for a few years. I'd like to go on the contraceptive injection which is taken every 3 months just as back up in case we don't use a condom.
Does anyone have any advice about this injection? Did you have any side effects? Do I just ring up to make an appoint with a nurse? To be honest, I don't know much about it lol.
Well Thanks in advance anyways guys x

Had really bad side effects like depression and the fact that i had a constant bleed. I only stayed on it so long to see if I would get used to it. It works well for some of my friends though. You just ring for an appointment with the practice nurse and tell them what its for. Also be prepared for it to take a while to come out of your system when you stop taking it
If you think you can go without hormones??? go to a sexual health clinic and get a cap/diaphragm. Try and stay as natural as possible.

Try not to get persuaded into having Mirena. There are better methods.

Thanks guy. Just so many different choices. We tend to always use a condom anyway, the way we were brought up - but as we have been together so long - there's always those times when we won't.
And I personally think I'm too young to have a child yet.
But great answers so far. I'm bot embarrased going to see the dr. lol

For me it worked really well, no PMT, no mood swings, no periods, few side effects at all. Stayed on it for 2 years and have now swtiched to the pill (the recomendation is not to stay on longer than 2 years) I went on a similar pill for 6 weeks before going on it to see how I would get on.
(i have a needle phobia as well!)
Speak to your nurse about you own circumstances to identify the best thing to do

I would say the injection. I was on this for 2.5 yrs and thought it was so much better than the pill. I tried so many different pills and had terrible mood swings, spots, etc. The same as Cheekystar, with the injection I had no periods, no PMT / mood swings. So handy just once every 3 months popping to the doc getting a jab and your done. When I asked about the weight issue prior to going on Depo (the injection) the doc told me the injection doesnt actually make you put on weight it just increases your appetite so ultimately its up to you if you put the extra weight on or not. Remember though if you want to conceive at anytime in the future you have to come off this WELL in advance as it stays in your system for a long time x
