ford escort wont start

i was driving my 1998 ford escort when it started to make a very loud strange noise i kept driving until i found somewhere to pull over then cut the engine off then when i tried to start it again it wouldnt start everytime i turned the key i got that horrible noise some guy asked me if i needed help i said yes i need a jump start but when he told me turn the key he heard the same noise and told me my starter motor was jammed so he pushed me and it bump started no problem do i need a new starter motor???

yes kind of, the part that is gone is the tooth cog that engages the starter, it can be repaired a lot cheaper than buying a new starter motor.

though repairing it will take a bit longer!
nah i think you need a new key!
