Happy christmas answerbankers. When did Cava start to get the big foothold that it now does in the sparkling wine market? Ten years ago I have to confess I,d never even heard of it. ( and Ive never aquired a taste for it either)
Now every champagne toast or reception it's invariably only cava and its just not the same is it? I wish I could put my finger on exactly what it is I dont like in cava, then I could try and get over it and enjoy the cheap slosh!!

I'm quite happy to drink dry Cava as a substitute for Champagne as long as it's a good quality Cava. Frankly I think many champagnes are overpriced and over rated.

there is rubbish champagne as well as nasty french sparkling wines, Spanish cava can be very good i tried some great rose ones earlier this year and have always loved Frexinet noir and would rather have that than moet et chandon anytime. also some are anything but cheap, as in anything there are different qualities.
Try not to be a snob and try new things you may be surprised.

In blind tasting a couple of years ago the Cavas from very good makers proved to be more highly rated than many champagnes on taste alone. I love Perrier Jouet, Laurent Perrier and Canard Duchene. However I would be happy to sup some of the Vintage Cava from Somerfield too there is some very interesting info on the superplonk web site about supermakets and the sparkling wines they sell.
