Hi, what age is a good age to stop giving full fat milk?
My little boy is three this month, he is a good weight, although a little short(!) He has a good diet and gets plenty of fats and protein in his diet (from sources other than milk)
Iv heard mixed advice on when to stop full fat..
Any ideas?
I believe its age 2 (unless its changed recently), as long as hes getting a varied diet its ok to give him semi skimmed. Dont give him fully skimmed milk until hes 5 though
my daughter is three and i've just stopped. i give her semi-skimmed now.
i would advise to carry on to at least two but others may have different opinions.
Children up to the age of three need a certain amount of calcium you can make sure they get this by making them drink about 2/3 of a pint of whole milk. If he eats well then sure switch to semi, he might not like it much though.
I switched at 3 years old ~ their diet contained other sources of calcium at that age and I did read somewhere that there was more calcium in semi skimmed milk than in full fat.
