going on holiday in march and we get a free car (renault clio) but i can up grade to a ford focus as there are 4 adults and 1 child, the clio being too small, my question is will the ford be ok for us, ie luggage and people

it will be for 4 adults see about a astra estate or a vectra that would suit you best.

It is almost certain you would get the luggage for 4 people and a child into a Ford Focus boot.

Even a Vectra/Mondeo boot may not be big enough (depends how many suitcases you have and their size)

Also note that "free" car hire is often not free and there is usually something to pay when you pick the car up.
