Hi! Jessie, my 6 month old cat,is on my lap right now, and as I was petting her, a fistful of hair came out in my hand! She is losing her hair like there's no tomorrow! Is it normal??? She's not bald or anything, just losing LOADS of hair. Please tell me it's normal? Is it because it's winter maybe?
Anybody?
I'e been reading up on cat's hair loss, and nothing really fits, as she is not scratching, doesn't have bald patches, no visible skin troubles, doesn't seem affected in any way...
So, my question is, is it normal for a cat to lose hair at certain times of the year? She is short-haired, so I never thought of grooming her, but maybe I should?
Hi there max, is she long haired?, she is probably just shedding her under coat, do you groom her regularly? brush her each day and it will help to get rid of all the loose coat, I only have dogs at the moment but they are losing hair constantly it comes out it great tufts especially the long haired ones, good job we don't get too many visitors.
Hi there! No, she is short-haired, but quite "fluffy" if you know what I mean...lol She doesn't seem bothered by it, so I will keep an eye on it and continue to try and remove as much of the lose hair as possible, see if that makes a difference.
Don't worry it's only natural for cats & dogs to do this.
Give her a regular good brush which will help release natural oils into her skin/coat which will give her a clean glossy coat.
Brush everyday/couple of days depending how long her fur is for a few minutes only.
Hi max can I just add....It might not be that easy to groom your kitty, some like it, some do not and in any case your cat will have to been in the [mood] thats when I groom mine.I have three, two of which need brushing and some weeks its murder to do it if they are in a dont touch me or else mood lol.g.
If she doesn't like being groomed with a brush (although my two, love it,and come running when they see the brush!),she might prefer grooming gloves or a mitt ;-)
Thanks everyone! I hadn't thought of a grooming glove. I'm sure she'll agree to that a lot more easily than a brush. I'll try to find one on Monday. In the meantime, I'll just have to vacuum the floor everyday....*shock horror*
my cat moults alot this time of year, i think its shedding their winter coat, although its still winter, so its weird. maybe they are just looking forward to the summer =]
