What was the riddle of the Spinx?

I can vaguely remember this from school but can't recall how it goes.
I also think the answer was 'A Man'. Maybe I've got it all wrong and there wasn't a riddle.

Can anyone answer this?

What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon, and three legs in the evening?

The answer is "MAN" as he is on 4 legs when he is a baby, 2 when he is mature and 3 when he is old (with a walking stick).
