Yes, you have an "N" from 19a - but don't forget that there are grid squares with clashes in them.

I thought it must be EL CID, but I can't see why. Could one of you please explain the clue?

el cid (war hero) contradicted= belied ( b is one of extra letters ) earl going (remove e) = el(c)id going round cuba = el cid
hope this makes sense
