My girlfriend has lived at my house for almost a year and has missed a couple of payments on her car insurance, which is registered at my address. I am going to be looking at changing my mortgage lender soon and wondered whether my credit check will be done against my address, i.e. including my girlfriend's credit score, or against me personally?

I can't find very much about this online that is specific. Any help would be GREATLY apprecited.

Thanks.

I can't see why her wickedness should be held against you just because she has the same address. Suppose she was a boarder, for instance? (I'm assuming you don't share the same name so there would be no reason for anyone to assume you were connected.)
im not too sure but you could contact Equifax or Experian and ask about "disaccociating" her name with yours?
credit scoring is done on a personal level NOT address as long as your girlfriend is not going to be named on the mortgage then you are ok

credit scoring is done against

your exsisiting credit
what credit you have applied for whether it was declined or accepted doesnt make a diffrence

then its tallyed up to make a total score and if it meets the mortgage lenders minimum score

your accepted.

hope that this helps.
access your credit report for free on experian and it will tell you everything
If your g/f is associated with you, by merit of having any other credit in joint names, it may arise.

However, if you declare your g/f as a lodger, for example, then she will not be associated with you for mortgage purposes and will just need to sign an 'occupiers consent' form agreeing that she is aware of a mortgage transaction.

This consent form is only used in the event of repossession and ensures that a tenant or similar will vacate the property immediately (i.e. cannot squat).

Good luck
P.S. it is very unlikely that car insurance instalments will be registered with any credit reference agency, but in case of doubt, you can get a copy of your report from:

www.experian.co.uk
www.equifax.co.uk
If you have a joint account or anything else in both names registered on your credit file then her history will affect you. If not then it won't (well it might but you can apply to get her disassociated from your record if you have no financial ties). Get hold of your credit files from Equifax and Experian and see what is on there, it costs 2 for each one.

Hi
I'm in the process of getting a mortgage and asked my mortgage company, Equifax and Experian the same question.
Just because someone lives at your address has no effect on your credit score. If you have any joint accounts with her then that will show up on your score. Just because you live together does not cause a problem. However, if you are applying for a joint mortgage then your girlfriend's score will matter.
Missed payments will show up on a credit check but if it's only a few that shouldn't make a huge difference. I think (but I'm not sure) late payments only stay on your record for 3/6 months.

Hop that makes sense.
