My Acer laptop will not charge, when connected to the mains charger, nothing works

have you got a volt meter? check that the power plug into the laptop has got power to it, its more likely to be the power cable than the laptop that is iffy

starting from the mains outlet (won't be the first time I've been out ... and found the building in darkness due to a powercut!!)

it could be any link in the chain .... without getting all tekkie
the easiest way is just swap the psu.

if no different .... plug your psu into another machine
