My dog had two lumps removed almost four weeks ago. I telephoned the vet a few days ago and said that her stitches are still in and they said that they normally take around 3 - 4 weeks to fall out. She said that if by 4 weeks they're still in then I should take her back to the vets.

The stitches are purple and look cotton-like. I informed the vet of this..

And what did the vet say?

The vet said that they should fall out by around 4 weeks. But the stitches don't look as though they're going to budge.

Is that supposed to be a joke Gravitate? Ummmm.. not funny if so.

She had two cancerous lumps removed.
You joke feel flat Gravitate - it's a girl dog.

muchlovex - I would just accept what the vet says unless the wound looks sore or swollen.

It is hard to not worry when a furry friend is concerned.

Best wishes.
Sounds like a type of suture called PDS. As long as it's not causing your girl any trouble (no itching, redness or seepage) there shouldn't be a problem with it being there.

Your vet is right in that it usually falls away by itself in around 4 weeks, give or take a week.
