My son's passport(Portuguese)expired the last year,I'd like to know if we are ableto leave UK and do his passport in Prtugal

However, it should be fairly straight forward to obtain a new passport for your son through a Portuguese embassy or consulate. You can get their contact details on the internet, through your local library or through directory enquiries.
Airlines face large fines if they permit anyone to travel without the relevant documentation to enter their arrival country. No airline will permit your son to travel without a valid passport.

Travelling TO your home country (passing through no other) with an expired passport is not necessarily a no-no. They can't refuse you admission if you can prove you are a citizen.
However convincing an airline of this is more trouble than it's worth and they may refuse you anyway.. Renew at the Embassy/Consulate in London - it's easy enough.
