Someone previously suggested this could be American gastroenterologist Burrill Bernard Crohn (Crohn's Disease)

the stumbling block with this possible answer is that there is no mention of Burrill having been a pathologist.Or......?

I'm pretty sure he was a pathologist but have come across a disease starting with W....Not being a physician I'm not sure. I think I need to put descriptions of both diseases on one page and look at them critically. W was earlier.

I'm inclining towards W, as he is recognised as a pathologist and in some of the articles (they all seem to give mostly the same facts) it mentions the thickening process which I didn't come across when reading about Burrill. ( This is turning into a "tank" question !!)

C has the right symptoms, W has the right qualifications. The problem with W's disease is that it doesn't tick enough of the right boxes and has lots of symptoms that aren't even gastrointestinal.

Just came across some info on the Crohn's Disease website. Unless they've seriously messed up, it can't be Crohn's. He was the fourth to identify the disease, not the first. The first person was a pathologist, but Italian and 17th-18th Century.

When you refer to W are you referring to the disease caught from rats or the one which sounds like a brand of ice-cream?
