Whoever thought of casting James Nesbitt in The Passion? I just could not help laughing and taking the mickey every time he spoke with that Irish accent. A great actor but terribly miscast.

i agree with you on this one. james nesbitt was fantastic in murphy's law, but his coleraine accent is very out of place in the THe Passion, would have been better if he had of changed it
I thought exactly the same thing Shylock!

Yes, as you say, Murphys Law and also Jeckyll and Hyde he showed what a good actor he is, I`m surprised he ever took a part in The Passion.
And a scouse Barabbas! (good typecasting, though)
Thats the problem, he can't DO a different accent. Can't stand him, he's one of those actors who is always the same like Hugh Grant.

Did warm slightly towards him though on Paul O'Grady when he said he's recently bought a new Hungarian Vizsla puppy. Can't be all bad!
What accent couldn't he do ? What accent did Pilate have ?
Did you want him to speak in latin or aramaic, perhaps?

After a while I didn't notice any accent, just concentrated on the story. James Nesbitt was brilliant as were the rest of the cast!
I thought it was well cast all round. And Nesbitt played the part well. The idea that they all spoke with classic BBC accents in first century Galilee and Judea (never mind south east Italy - Pilate's believed origins) has always made me laugh.
The jumble of faces and voices helped make the drama believable.
after watching the whole thing my opinions of james nesbitt changed. i think he played a really good part and after a while i never noticed his accent
