Does anyone know the easiest way to repair a scratched c.d or d.v.d.?
I heard something on the steve wright show, and I'm sure that it was an apple or a pear to be rubbed over the disc from the centre outwards. I could be imagining this as it seems a bit silly !! Anyone any ideas please ? ! Many thanks

I'd heard that toothpaste or brasso could be used.... these sound rough but don't forget that the upper surface of the cd is polycarbonate (a form of plastic) - the actual data is on the metal or silvered layer below.

I've had a couple of CDs that skipped at a certain place. Burnt a copy on the PC and the copies played OK.
Try your local Blockbuster or Game store, they have disc repair machines which re pretty good and reasonably priced, about 3 per disc.

They don't guarantee to make them work, but they're usually pretty sensible
Pop it in the freezer overnight. :)
they said they did not scratch!!!!!! i found at least with the records if you had a scratch you knew where it was and just move it forward by hand. But once a cd jumps>>>Which always jumps on your fav bit how ever well you treat the cd your favs always jump..........
It has also got me so frustrated i have stopped buying them and i used to buy at least 3 a week now i would rather listen to the radio.as havnt got an i pod and got into downloading. sounds like it saves you having to skip all those unwanted bits on an album. problem seems to be me just getting used to tech stuff........And by the way those shop repair cd kits do not work.......
ye stuff cds, they scratch too easily.
best buy a kit off ebay, not the polishing type, the ones that abrade.
toothpaste and brasso work ok, not on the heavier scratches though.
AFAIK the info is not held on the metal reflective layer, it's held below this on a layer of the polycarbonate.

a little perfume or aftershave on them works but wont buff out the deeper scratches. hope this helps!
This may sound drastic but 'T' cut works for games on games consoles. Have saved a few of my sons expensive games this way. Be sure to polish it well after to make sure there is no residue
