I feel guilty about my own prejudice here and see that it's quite a widespread feeling. But none of us know which, if any, of those people are unemployed, unemployable, or criminal. Would they have been more acceptable if the women were a little more groomed and magnums of champagne were being popped open rather than cheap lager?

persianlady : Rightly so, M.Thatcher closed the coal mine's
they were losing mega buck's [ ] it
was us tax payer's in other industries paying their wage's!!
it was cheaper to import coal from poland & ELSEWHERE.
Tell me, if you owned your own company & it was looseing money, would you keep it running , just to keep your employee's in a job. I do'nt think so!! . & exactley the same
thing was going on within the power industries, Gas, Electricity & BT. That's why they were sold off , they were LOSER'S.
You do'nt plough money into something that does not pay it's way.

NikkiB is correct non of us know which, if any, of those people are unemployed, although there seemed to be an awful number of adults on the streets.
It was reported that the mother's boyfriend is a Supermarket Butcher. I wonder if he goes to bed in that baseball cap? One could dress these people in the most expensive clothes, send the women to have their hair done and make-up applied and still they would look no different, WHY?
I think NikkiB was also generalising when he said they had cheap lager. There was also bottles of some kind of fizzy wine being popped off and sprayed all over the place the day the girl was found.

What unpleasant reading this post makes.
Perhaps next time a community want to celebrate the safe return of a child, they should be vetted first to make sure that they are aesthetically pleasing to the audience.
How dare they not consider the tastes of the viewing public first before getting on with their lives.
Mind you all of those recoiling in horror from fellow mankind, at least their existence enables you to feel mightily superior.

Apart from Ruby - and Lucy who didn't comment on the actual post - I think you're a disgusting load of snobs. I suppose in your estimation that the McCanns are more deserving of help, since they have a "position" in society? I don't suppose it matters to you that Madaleine and the other chidren were left alone, in a strange country, every night of their holiday? Does being middle class exempt them from being totally negligent?
This was a missing child, for goodness' sake! Have you no feelings? More than likely no children - or ones who're also palmed off, whilst you go out to work!

We live in a society where appearances count for everything...and inner soul for nothing. As far as Shannons family...it is all too easy to jump on the anti-chav bandwagon...we/I have been guilty of it....yet can't those predjudices be put away for a while. There will always be an underclass in this and all western countries..it is not going to go away. This is not there time to get all superior and self-righteous..it just makes us look bad as human beings.

Couldn't agree more - and here's a lasting thought for those who despise the "underclass" as you so delicately put it -
So you want these chavvy people to get off their backsides and work as hard as you, do you? What on earth would you do if they became your neighbours then????
I don't think any amount of money makes a lady or a gentleman, but good manners and being mindful of others feelings goes a long way...
Can anyone put their hands up? By observation, not many of you.
