I contacted my local MP concerning my son being unable to find a place to live. I told her that there needs to be something done about the house situation. She wasn't interested so don't tell me about getting on to my local MP about stuff. Unless your an immigrant forget it.
The judiciary is hopeless, this country is over run people who should be in prison are not, those who need not be there are(ie two guys who forged signatures for money and old poeple not paying thier council tax.)hardly heavey duty crime. People lost a bit of money its not like any one was hurt or killed by it.
These people are getting vast amounts of money for doing basically sweet FA.
We are focused and angry. Why do you think this thread was wriiten. To highlight the stupidity of this judicial system and the goverment that stands by and does nothing to change it.

There should be a set sentence for a particular crime, so every one knows that if you commit a crime you know exactly what you are going to get.

Judges should be elected, and should be forced to stand down on reaching a certain age. They should also be forced to periodically take refresher courses to bring them up to date with what is really going off in the "Real World".

Regarding our money grabbing, non listening, waste of space MPs. Go out and vote at the next election, for anyone apart from a present sitting MP. That may then make them wake up and realise we put them in these lucrative positions, but we can also dismiss them .

You must add to your list of "inadequates" the management and staff of the Crown Prosecution Service. The miscreants in the case mentioned were charged with manslaughter, not murder, and this would have been decided by the CPS.

As for set sentences, the idea of an independent judiciary is that they are free to impose sentences taking into account all the circumstances in each case presented to them. I don't think too many people would not like to see sentencing carried out by Parliament.

Apart from being restrained by maximum sentences as laid down by Parliament, judges and magistrates are also bound to sentence in accordance with their sentencing guidelines as devised by the Sentencing Guidelines Council (SGC).

These provide guidance for sentencers and take account of various mitigating and aggravating circumstances for each offence. Departure from the guidelines without just cause is strong grounds for appeal.

I agree that the country is far too soft in a number of areas and that the SGC (allegedly independent, but almost certainly influenced by Parliament) has gradually reduced their recommended sentences. The blame, however, lies principally with Parliament, not the judiciary.
