What is the origin of the phrase 'Derby and Jones'?

I wonder whether you mean 'Darby and Joan'. An 18th century song contained these lines:

"Old Darby with Joan by his side,
You've often regarded with wonder;
He's dropsical, she is sore-eyed,
Yet they're never happy asunder."

So, ever since then, any devoted elderly couple always seen together have been given those names.
