I gave up smoking 3 months ago and today has been the worst day Ive had for craving for one, even though. I have the patches, chewing gum and nicotine inhalers.
I know I will regret it if I have one, but the craving is terrible.
Has anybody had the same experience, and did you give in?
PLEASE DO NOT GIVE IN! When you get the craving go and put the kettle on - make a hot drink. That way you are using your hands - and by the time you have drunk your tea/coffee the urge will have gone. I once stopped for 12 months (having smoked for many years) and then gave in to the craving, thinking just one wouldn't hurt. It did hurt, and it was another 10 years before I summoned up the willpower to stop again. I learnt from that that it is fatal to have just one (and even now 9 smokefree years later I still get the occasional craving - but there is no way I will give in now).
I used the chewing gum (still do), and as you are 3 months in, I will give you what may be some bad advice - have a smoke.
When I gave in for an evening and smoked, the feelings of guilt and failure, and reeking clothes the next morning, were terrible, and enough to ensure that I never gave in again.
I gave up smoking 3yrs . 5 months. 2 weeks . 4 days . 3 hrs and 4 minutes ago but i dont really think about it now !
seriously I went through hell when I gave up .BUT IT WAS WORTH IT.
especially when i see all these poor sods out in the cold and rain now .
make a list now about all the good things there is about smoking . it will be very short . Now make a list about all the bad thing about smoking . it will be very long
the day that I realized that I had actually given up smoking was the day that I walked out of the news agents and suddenly thought > God i didnt look at the fags . It was about three month dont give in to that little devil that is sat on your shoulder saying one wont mater . if you only have one you are still a smoker . I does get better honest .
I only started this as a joke seem I have done a essay
Well done. I'm still a committed smoker but how I wish I wasn't. What you've achieved is more than I could imagine right now, you're practically there so don't give in.
I gave up 7 years ago. Just went cold turkey. It was difficult but I got lots of support from family/mates who agreed not to smoke in front of me. Took me about 4 months to stop the cravings - word of warning - I put on a stone at the time but that comes off quickly if you exercise.
Look up a picture or even visit a childrens' hospice where dozens of kids are dying of cancer because of Gods will, then ask yourself "Why am I doing this for free and with choice?"
Those kids will die a horrible death and you will do this to yourself??? They would do anything to have your body.
