Elderly cats are just like old people - you have to make sure they have very easy access to their litter tray, but make sure it's not too near where you feed them (we wouldn't like to have our food next to the toilet, would we?). I have 5 cats, 2 of whom are 10 year-old sisters and I swear one of the old girls is going senile. She hates the others and doesn't seem to know what she wants half the time (food, cuddles, sleep??). Just give your cat lots of love and make sure she can easily get to her litter tray, maybe even have more than one around the house, so it's easy for her. You don't say how old she is, but I'm sure she still knows who loves her!! Good luck, K x
thanx. maybe i'm expecting too much! we don't use litter trays and the cats go to the back door and cry when they want to go out, they are out overnight ao this is only a daytime problem. The thing is the old boy can't seem to be bothered to go to the door now, he just waddles ten feet away from wherever he was lying. We're having to constantly remind ourselves of his whereabouts. shame.
hi sprustotty,
I've got an old cat,19 years, and I have recently got married and moved home. We did all we could to keep 'Beau Geste' calm. He settled in the new house very well indeed, but outside, which prior too moving was his fave place at night, was a different matter. We seem to be in a cat metropolis, with hunky-chunky cats all around. Beau Geste decided that he wasn't going to mix with these cats and started to treat various places in my new home as a toilet. Hmmm, not very nice. We have bought him an indoor toilet, so that he doesn't have to fight for a certain spot, can you see him smiling? I hope that if I get to his relative age, then someone will attend to me in such a sensitive way. So no I don't think they forget as such, they just get tired. I've also discovered that white vinegar will erradicate any urine odour, but watch your fabrics for any reaction to this acid.

Hi spurstotty, it's me again, wazzaa,
remember me with the 19 year old cat? Well, as he is s old he doesn't play so much now, and I've been doing some DIY using a laser level. Beau Geste caught sight of the beam while I was working and went into raptures over following the beam. We've had so much fun with him with this game, I say fun because it's ab fab to see him very active again. This has problems of it's own; If I take a seat in the lounge he will imediately sit bang in front of me until I get the gadget out, whilst I think it's great that he has a new interest in life, I really didn't want him obsessing over it, still, I don't suppose he has too much time left in this world, so I indulge him. Speak soon, and all the best.
wazzaa. ;-) x
