As every pc uses the function keys in different ways, in different applications, the only way you'll know for sure is to read the manual or test them out.
On my laptop, if I press FN and F1 I get a list of the F keys functions:
C:\Program Files\Launch Manager\Help.htm
Maybe yours does the same

As Ethel says, different computer, different results from pressing a function key.
But besides F1 to F12, these keys may show a symbol that will carry out an alternative function when you simultaneously press the key marked Fn. These may be called 'Hotkeys' on your computer, and will usually allow you to control screen brightness, contrast, speaker volume, etc. Some keyboards may have keys that are marked not only with the letters of the alphabet, but also the numbers 0 to 9. Holding down the Fn key on such keyboards provides a handy numeric keypad using those numbered keys.
As with Ethel's, and mine, pressing Fn and F1 together could give you an onscreen Fn Hotkey Menu on your own computer. If not, it's back to the manual.
