Transferring info from Pc-Laptop

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to transfer stored info from an old PC system to a new notebook yourself, or does it have to be done professionally?

You can then transfer your entire Hard-disc drom the PC to your Laptop very easily. You will also have additional storage space and a back up device aswell.

An old pc system (<98) won't make ethernetting the simple procedure it is in XP. Depending on the file size you could just email them to yourself, put them on floppy disk, a USB pen drive (if your old system has any USB ports) or make a DCC (direct cable connection) like Joanne says, making your old system the host (the computer you want to fetch the files from) and your spanking new laptop the guest (the computer your are taking the files to).
