Why the extreme bitterness between David Blunkett and his former lover Kimberley Quinn?When news of the affair broke they were meeting for talks and it seemed difficult but not uncivilised.Now shes taken her husbands name,is refusing Blunkett access to his son and is apparently attempting to ruin his career.Did I miss what happened to turn things so sour?

I think that the scnario being played out here is typical - it's just the high profile of one of the protagonists that makes it newsworthy. If David Blunkrett has used is position to fast-track the visa aplication, that is a public issue, and he sould resign. the issue of parenthood is entirely separate, and should remain private.

It's interesting to note that three highly paid successful people are wrangling over this child, but none of them could spare the time to look after him personally - that was the job of an employee. there must be a moral there somewhere.
