mirena coil - can it fall out unnoticed?
8 Answers
i had a mirena coil fitted about a month back. at least once a month i check to see that the "strings" are still there (anyone who has a mirena will know what i am talking about) anyway...i can no longer find the strings!!! surely it couldn't have slipped out unnoticed? is it possible that the mirena has moved position slightly in my uterus and so it is still there but th strings are now higher up? anyone had a similar experience?

I have had mine now for 2 years and cant feel the strings any more but know it is still there. If you are worried about it though just go and see your practice nurse at your GPs and get her to check it is still ok.
There is no need to check it monthly to see if it is still there. If is was going to come out it would have done so within the first few weeks. If you have had it a year, I wouldnt worry about it.

What's probably happened is that the "strings" have coiled themselves up around the neck of your cervix and are no longer dangling down.
It's very very common & nothing to worry about.
If you need reassurance, make an appointment with your practice nurse for a quick check......or you could get your partner to do it.
