Why do shampoo bottles advise us to rinse and repeat? I've never done that yet. Is it a ploy to get us to buy shampoo more often? Or is there a reason why we should do this?

And more importantly - is my hair likely to fall out because I've never done it?

I do it twice if anyones watching but only once when no one can see. Am I a scruff???
I've got really thick hair, but as it never gets greasy I only wash it once then condition.

Love the smell of Vosene too, brings back memories of my younger days...

P.S. I don't think rinsing & repeating would make your hair fall out BOO, although it could end up looking like this if you did it too much:

Bad hair day ;0}

hehe smudge- that's an awesome barnet!
Thats cheating its the same afro as the Rev wears when he DJ's lol
lol smudge! chesnuts, I take it you mean at the pool or something...otherwise, who watches you when you're washing?! :/

"Lather, rinse, repeat, lather, rinse, repeat, and lather, rinse, repeat as needed"

I never repeat, BOO. bm seems to though ;) *lol*

I think part of it is a rip-off ploy, and part of it is that it might give a deep clean if you need it. So if you'd been down the mine all day, you might require 2 washes, otherwise, you should be OK.

I am currently using Herbal Essences, which smells wonderful, and GUM conditioner, which actually smells like what it claims to be-Florida Orange. Mmm, citrussy!

I usually use a mid-way brand, as I believe these to be as good as the salon shampoos. My hair always seems healthy, and the hairdresser is usually happy with it. I tend to get it from knock-off stores like Home Bargains though, to save a few pennies :)

Alberto Balsam is good. I read that washing-up liquid is only a little removed from shampoo, so if you're really skint, a 16p bottle of Sqeezy might do the job :) (Although I am sure you can buy shampoo for the same price!)

I LOVE Pears Soap, and I also love Wright's Coal Tar. Reminds me of my gran-if you ever see someone picking up said soaps at your local shop and sniffing through the wrapper, I am afraid it's me!
leelapops, lol
chesnuts, you are remaining reticent....should I be worried?!

Just realised I wrote a book there! I need less time!
My husband is allergic to anything with perfume in it and also some of the things that make shampoos and shower gels lather - he has washed his hair with plain pure white unscented bath soap for the last 2 years and I have to say - his hair looks a lot healthier than mine!!!

I know the answer to this one. Many moons ago when Chris Evans was on Virgin radio in the morning he asked his team and listeners this question "what 3 words made a businessman a millionaire almost overnight?" and the answer was..........rinse and repeat. Apparently he was a leading name in healthcare products and wanted to make more sales so a business advisor told him to write that on the bottles!! I may not have remembered it word perfect but that was the general idea. So in answer to your question yes it was a marketing ploy to make people use twice as much!

Brilliant answer fuzzybee- so it was a ploy eh? Stars for you. You'd get a cake too- but I ate that ;-)
the reason we should wash our hair twice is the first time you wash it cleans the hair, it gets all the dirt and products etc out. then the second time you wash it cleanses and actually does the job it should. When you are at a hairdressers they always wash your hair twice. Oh and your hair will always shed as it is constantly regrowing when a strand falls out its because a new strand has pushed it out to make way for it to grow, its a constant cycle although it does stop for a certain period.
