I'm a 35 year old male, and over the past few weeks i've found myself waking up in the middle of the night DRENCHED in sweat. It only last for about an hour, usually after i've been asleep for 3-4 hours. What's all that about? xxx

Since you're male, I guess we can rule out menopause.  <g>  Do you have any other symptoms?  Chest pain?  Fever?  There are many different causes for night sweats; a physician on a medical website suggests the following:

What I suggest you do is the following. First, figure out how long you have had night sweats. If you have had them more than several months, infection is less likely but not ruled out. Check to see if you are having true fever. The best time to check is in the evening, around 6:00 p.m., the usual time of highest temperature and before your night sweats. Then, talk to your physician.

I get it all the time, I sweat when I sleep whether it is in bed, on the sofa, on a plane, etc.  I put it down to a guilty consience!!  Seriously though I don't think that there is anything wrong with you, just drink a lot of water when you wake up.  Good luck.

P.S. I'm not a doctor.

If you have noticed a weight loss and fever and itching  along with the nightsweats this would be classic symptoms of Lymphoma...

That's it chinadoll, frighten the life out of spiff, why don't you!!

Spiff, if there seems to be no obvious reason for the night sweats I'd  suggest that you have a word with your GP and have a health check.

Do you suffer from anxiety at all?  It may be that while you are sleeping, the subconcious mind is allowing all the hidden anxieties to surface, hence the sweats etc.

As I've mentioned, not harm in speaking to the Doctor...

Good luck

Hey, I'm a doc. I do suggest going to see you GP because harmless at is more than likely is, there can be underlying problems that need sorting. He'll ask you a few questions to do with work, stress levels, home life and then a few medical questions and he'll know about more of your medical history. Maybe you're on some new medication? To be honest, GP is the best way to go.

Hypoglacemia cauld be a factor or you could be experiencing hyperthyroidism.  The resulting nights are misery incarnate.  Been told that sleep apnia can also be a factor.  Wish you well and a cure.  Been fighting this thing for fifteen years . . . even to the point of logging everything I eat, drink and do and still have not identified a common factor.
