"A person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance".
So if person ONE says "Everybody who comes here from Vietnam (as an example) is a criminal so lets get rid of them all" then person ONE is a bigot.
But if person TWO says "There is almost no evidence that people who come here from Vietnam are any more likely to be criminals than anybody else"
AND every day in the papers we see people from Vietnam shooting each other, stabbing each other, selling drugs, stealing mobile phones (even though the population of the UK is only made up of 5% of people from Vietnam).
Then person TWO is also a bigot, because they are clinging to THEIR opinions and prejudices even when the situation seems to point to an alternative viewpoint.
They are just as bad as each other.

I think the term 'bigot' in the standard use of the term means someone who has very strongly held opinions and views, which they are not prepared to debate sensibly, and which are based on seriously shaky information, usually gleaned from the increasingly fear-centred right-wing media here in the UK.

You can be a left wing bigot, but reading the Daily Mail provides you with an unfair advantage as you have bigotry on every page - this means you don't even have to think up narrow minded and poorly informed opinions- they are prepared for you like tv dinners - just heat to rant and rave temparature and go.
It is perfectly natural to feel an infinity and preference to ones own type; which is why muslims like to marry muslims, which is why the NAACP (national association for advancement of coloured people) exists in the USA, which is why Chinese very rarely marry of even socialise outside their own group etc etc etc. Doesnt make them bigots.
