Which processor is best

Hi, could anyone advise me which processor is best between Intel Celeron Mobile and Intel Pentium Dual Core.
I am buying a new laptop and have narrowed my search down two - but dont know anything about processors!

dual core is the better CPU, the celeron is the budget intel processor.

That said for most peoples use a celeron will be plenty good enough, but if the moneys not an issue go for a dual core.

I would not buy either.

The best processor to get is the Intel Core 2 Duo.

The Pentium Dual Core is OLD technology (Intel are getting rid of the name Pentium) and these dual core processors run very hot and drain the laptop battery.

And has been said, the Celeron are low end budget CPUs.

Here is a list of all the Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs (fastest at the top of the list)

The ones that begin E (like E8500 are for desktops) and the ones that begin T (like T9500 are for laptops).

Any one of the "T" CPUs (even the slowest) will be better than a Pentium Dual Core as they run cooler and do not drain the battery.

After doing a bit more research what I said above may not be totally correct.

I got a bit confused because Intel have a bewildering range of CPUs, all with similar names, and it is very easy to mix them up.

I stand by my comment that the Intel Core 2 Duo is the best.

BUT they do have some mobile Pentium Dual Core that are the same as the Intel Core 2 Duo but with less cache.

These numbers are T2330, T2310, T2130, T2080, T2060, T2370.

But they also have some Celeron dual core procesors, which are their budget range. the only number I could find is the T1400.

So if looking for a laptop there are 3 main choices with Dual Core:

1) Intel Core 2 Duo - the best if you can afford it

2) Pentium Dual Core - next best and cheaper

3) Celeron Dual Core - cheapest but lowest power

(Note they also have mobile CPUs called "Intel Core Duo", and "Intel Core 2 Solo" and "Intel Core Solo" so you see why I got confused).

I'm not up to speed on laptop processors but on the pc front, Intel Celeron are the basic ones, followed by the Intel Pentium which range in spec from the D processor (which had a few heat problems) up to Extreme (dual core). The latest Intel ones are the Core2 Due, Core2 Quad and the Core 2 Extreme (lots more cache memory). You pays your money and takes your pick. It really depends on what you want the processor to actually do - lots of multi tasking or gaming will require that bit extra.

Over on the AMD side, you have the Sempron (the basic one, similar to the Celeron), the standard processor (the Athlon) and then the latest Phenom - quad and triple core extras.

From your two options, the Intel Pentium Dual core is far superior to the Celeron but obviously costs a bit more.

anybody else think Intel are making their CPU choices overly complicated and confusing these days with far too similar names for different processors :)

Yes ! At least with AMD you know you have:- Sempron (basic), Athlon (Standard) and Phenom (latest) lol....
